There’s no other way to start a split than with the oldest rivalry in League of Legends, Counter Logic Gaming vs Team SoloMid. The North American Summer split kicks off June 3rd 8 PM EST in the first ever regular season best of three match up between the age old rivals. Historically TSM has dominated the match up, going back to the Reginald vs HotshotGG days but recently the tale is not the same. CLG had an amazing showing at the Mid-Season Invitational on the national stage right after winning their first ever back to back North American championships and is the team to beat in North America, but that doesn’t mean you should count out TSM.
Team SoloMid is a very formidable opponent at this point no matter how well CLG has been performing recently. In the Summer split playoffs TSM was just one team fight win away from beating CLG in the playoffs and they are going to come out hungry. North American League of Legends has a whole has been vastly improving over the last year with at least 4 teams in the running to grab this split’s title and secure their spot at World’s. So while from the outside it looks like CLG is clearly the best in their region teams like TSM, Cloud 9, Immortals, and Team Liquid all have a real shot at winning the Summer split.
TSM spent their mid season break boot camping in Korea as well as having Support tryouts after the departure of YellowStar who returned to Fnatic over the break. CLG of course was participating against some of the best teams in the world at the Mid-Season Invitational, so neither of these guys are going to be the slightest bit rusty. Team SoloMid will be starting a rookie at Support in Biofrost who had only previously played on Challenger Series teams. Counter Logic Gaming will be keeping their same roster going in to the Summer split after starting two rookies (Stixxay and Huhi) in the Spring split.
All in all, TSM is going to come into this match up motivated. As CLG has been getting the best of the rivalry in recent memory, veterans Bjergsen and Doublelift are going to be looking to end that. We predict that Counter Logic Gaming is going to have a bit of a Mid-Season Invitational hangover while TSM is going to come into the match with the intensity and fire it will takes to put their foot down and show that they are still contenders in their region.
